Defected Records & Peppermint Jam Honor Mousse T. in New ‘House Masters’ 3LP Retrospective

Defected Records has set its sights on one of European dance music’s true architects for the next chapter in its revered House Masters archive. Grammy-nominated German heavyweight Mousse T. steps into the spotlight with a massive three-piece vinyl package that celebrates over two decades of undeniable dancefloor alchemy.

Co-presented alongside Mousse T.’s own pioneering Peppermint Jam imprint, the sprawling collection documents a career built on infectious groove engineering, vocal finesse, and irresistible funk. For selectors who still prioritize physical wax in their gig bags, this six-sided retrospective is built from the ground up for serious club rotation.

The Legacy of a House Music Pioneer

For over thirty years, Mustafa Gündoğdu—universally recognized as Mousse T.—has stood as a defining figure in global electronic music culture. Operating out of Hannover, Germany, he played an instrumental role in bridging the gap between European club culture and the soulful, gospel-infused house music emerging from Chicago, New York, and New Jersey during the early 1990s.

By founding Peppermint Jam Records in 1993 alongside Errol Rennalls, Mousse T. established a critical launchpad for sophisticated, organic dance music. Over the decades, his signature sound—characterized by crisp live percussion, funky basslines, and unmatched vocal arranging—has set the benchmark for quality across the global house scene.

Joining Defected’s prestigious House Masters hall of fame is a milestone reserved only for those who have fundamentally shaped the genre’s history. Previous installments in the series have honored iconic artists such as Frankie Knuckles, Masters at Work, Dennis Ferrer, Armand Van Helden, and Louie Vega. With this monumental release, Mousse T. rightfully takes his place among house music royalty.

Unreleased Heat and Wax Debuts for Crate Diggers

Far from a standard greatest-hits repackaging, this pressing delivers real utility for working DJs hunting for exclusives. The compilation unearths tracks previously marooned on hard drives, locked behind promo pools, or restricted to digital-only playlists, cutting them to vinyl for the very first time.

• Four Exclusive Cuts: Brand new, unreleased “Shizzle” dubs and peak-time “Re-Rubs” produced specifically for this edition.
• First-Ever Vinyl Pressing: Includes a sought-after remix making its long-awaited debut on physical wax.
• Heavyweight Tracklist: Masterclass reworks of generational anthems from artists including Moloko, CamelPhat, Dennis Ferrer, Martin Solveig, Spiller, and Shakedown.

For vinyl enthusiasts and touring DJs, this release addresses a major challenge in modern DJ culture: finding pristine, full-frequency vinyl pressings of essential edits that were previously only accessible via compressed digital formats or long-out-of-print white labels. Pressed across three heavy-gauge vinyl discs, each side has been carefully mastered to deliver maximum bass response and dynamic range in high-end club environments.

A Clinic in Vocal House and Peak-Time Groove

Few producers bridge the gap between golden-era disco-funk sensibilities and modern house music energy quite like Mousse T. Over the course of six sides, the compilation charts his evolution from raw breakbeat-laced rhythms and soulful vocal arrangements to the driving, bass-heavy grooves that have kept his edits on heavy rotation across Ibiza terraces and underground sweatboxes worldwide.

Whether you’re looking for sophisticated sunset builders or reliable peak-hour weapons that instantly ignite a dancefloor, this retrospective serves as an essential sonic blueprint of house music’s enduring appeal.

Beyond his chart-topping crossover hits like “Horny ’98” and his iconic production on Tom Jones’ “Sex Bomb,” this House Masters collection showcases Mousse T.’s underlying strength as a producer: his deep respect for the dancefloor. His remix catalog reads like a history of modern dance culture, turning classic tracks into timeless club tools that transcend generational boundaries.
